STAGING YOUR HOME FOR YOUR MOVE

When you are preparing to sell your home, a very helpful start is to stage your home for the potential buyers. This is a simple step that will more than likely hasten the sale of your home because it makes it easier for the potential buyer to see their own items in the space of your house. Take a very careful look at your home when you walk through the front door.

Pretend that you are a customer. What do you see? Are you looking at a clean view or a cluttered, very personalized house? Look at your walls and shelves. You will want to remove most personal items from view. These include family photos, collections, trophies, etc. Remove most books and give the shelves a clean look.

It helps to remove most items from your kitchen and bathroom countertops. Store them inside of the cabinets only if you plan on using them. Do you need the food processor or can you use a knife? Are you going to be using the blender? Do you need more than everyday dishware? Can the china and stemware be stored away? You will want to leave only the items that you definitely need for the immediate future and those items that are pleasing to the eye. A lot of times we are able to buy items in bulk or multiples. If the items can be stored away, do so. Give your cabinets the look of lots of storage space.

Go through your closets including the linen and coat closets. Remove all clothing that is not in season or those items you are not going to be wearing any time soon. If your child has grown and you are saving clothing for a future child, store them or donate them to a friend or a charity.

You need two sets of linens for each bed. One to have on the bed and one to have for the change while you are washing the first set. Think about towels in the same way. All of these changes will make it look as though there is more closet space. If it is summer, remove coats from the coat closet. Make sure that the shelves also are free of items that are unnecessary; put away the boots and scarves.

Keep only the holiday items that will be used soon. IF you are keeping them, keep them looking neat and identified so that it is apparent that they need to be in the space they are filling. If the holiday has passed this year, store those decorations for the time being.

Check the garage and basement. Are you storing paint from previous painting? Most times it is helpful to paint the walls a neutral color before a move. This means you can dispose of the paint you have been storing. Arrange the garage shelves and workbench so that they also have a clean and organized look to them.

Chicago Box Company can help you with this part of your move by providing boxes and moving supplies for you to store items you will not be needing any time soon. Remember, these items will have to be packed and moved when you do sell your house. By staging your home, you will be ahead of the game and the actual move will be made much easier.

All of the boxes that Chicago Box Company sells have a description that tells you what items should be packed into that particular box. This makes it easier for you to know what boxes you need to purchase. For your closets, push the clothes gently together on the pole. Wardrobe boxes come in two sizes, 18 and 24 inches. For every 18/24 inches of clothing you will need one box. These boxes come with a pole, and you take the clothing directly from the closet and hang them in the wardrobe box. Bulky items such as stuffed animals and cushions can be stored in the bottom of these boxes without damaging your clothing.

Chicago Box Company sells the exact same boxes you can purchase from a moving or box company, including specialty boxes made for lamps, electronics, and oversized items. We also sell boxes for the storage of your office papers and files, packing tape and moving pads. The major difference is the price! Chicago Box Company’s prices are quite a bit lower than the prices you would pay if you bought them from a moving or box company. We deliver them directly to you. Even if you have to store these items in the garage or basement, at least they will be crisp, clean and organized and you will be showing the potential buyer the storage capability of your home.
